Biorefining and the Circular Economy Strategy

Feb 12, 2024

In the face of global challenges related to climate change and environmental protection, the development of innovative methods of obtaining natural raw materials is gaining priority. These methods must take into account aspects related to the protection of water, soil and atmospheric resources. This also includes food production and processing, the creation of advanced cosmetics, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals.

What is biorefinery and why does it align with the Circular Economy Strategy?

Biorefinery is the processing of biomass into a spectrum of marketable products and bioenergy. Biomass comprises valuable components suitable for food, nutriceuticals, pharmacy and feed industry. Utilizing the entire biomass in a biorefinery aligns with the principles of the Circular Economy Strategy.

A process innovation on a global scale in our projects is the use of cascade biorefinery, where each of the extraction streams can be transformed into a valuable by-product, enabling virtually waste-free use of biomass.
